Does this just mean I have wireless capability? Or does this mean if I am in a non-wifi area that I can use my phone company for my internet connection?

I ask this because I received a mass e-mail from my work explaining that everyone on it received an AT and T Wireless internet card, and if you aren't using it to please send it back. I'm confused. Is this thing built in?

you probably have a mobile broadband card from AT&T which is not the same as the built in 802.11 wifi.

I would use the built in wifi whenever possible as its much faster, but you have to be within range of a hotspot, typically about a 100 foot radius or so

mobile broadband is only about 3-4 times faster then dialup depending on signal strength but works off cell towers so you do have more mobility

If you have seen the tv commercial about the wireless internet card, it portrays a guy in the field and able to find a signal. Almost all wireless internet card can pickup a signal from a main router usually from a house, retails, etc. Now if you were in the middle of no where and have a phone and mobile internet package then you can use your phone to connect to the internet. I'd say only do this if you have too due to the high charges they will impose on the bill. It's usually around .99 to 2.99 a minute unless you have a plan which may cost around $35.00 to $50.00 a month just on the internet part.

That is an odd memo. I would just ask. Why would they give it to everyone. You would only need such a device if you were working out in the "field".
