This one is a real tuffy, Chuffy!
I have given it a great deal of thought. I have lived in many states in America. Every State in the Union has it's own set of troubles and tribulations, as does our current Federal Administration.
Some of the States are still rife with hatred, violence, and prejudice, while others are not as bad. Still, there are others that are economicaly depressed, where unemployment is high, and the Welfare system is beginning to break the backs of the middle class taxpayer.
The U. S. Government has suckered the governments of not only your country, but many other countries around the globe, into a Persian Gulf war that is killing their young people on a daily basis. By the time the American Public and the rest of the world found out that there WERE no WMD's in Iraq, the war was well underway, and the Military Machine could not be stopped. I can't begin to express how badly I feel about my Governments decision to enter into this military fiasco, nor can I express the heartfelt sadness that often overwhelms me each time a soldier, regardless of their country of origin, is killed because of that fiasco. It has made America one of the most hated countries in the world.
Be that as it may, I love my country, and I am PROUD to be an American. I served it for 5 years, 9 months, and 23 days, and have never regreted it. It is a country as diverse in culture, ethnicity, and religeon, as it is in geography. It is, to my knowledge, the only country in the world with a Constitution that guarantees it's citizens freedom from religeous persecution;... the right to life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness;... a Government OF the people, BY the people, FOR the people. The beauty of the Constitution of the United States is that the PEOPLE are the ones who have the power change it, if necessary. If you could take the time to read and study it, you would learn more about the American mind-set than I could ever tell you about here. A mind-set that still exists almost 250 years AFTER it was written!
Suffice it to say that the best place to live in America is according to what you can, will, or are able, to tolerate. Big cities are definately not for me as I don't do well in crowded places. But there are arrid deserts, semi-tropical areas, tropical islands, and areas of bone-chilling arctic cold. There are forests that have trees that are over 400 years old and older;... deep canyons, jagged mountains, gentle rolling hills, and vast, bountiful plains that are older than America herself;... coastlines unparalleled by any others in the world. There are smooth ones, rugged ones, and downright treacherous ones;...sunny ones, windy ones, and ones covered by clouds for many days at a time.
For my part, I would live pretty much in any of the 50 great States because if you are in any one of them, you are still in America....
Sorry I got a little long winded there, but in order for you to determine which of the 50 states is best to live in, well,...ya just gotta check that out for yourself. For those of you here on Y/A who may agree, disagree, want to know, or discuss more, by all means please feel free to e-mail me! Thank all of you who have taken the time to read through this. I hope that you found it worthwhile.
My heart goes to ye,
Jim
