Unfortunately, our government has their hands in so many parts of the economy that if they are unable to bring about a budget resolution, certain things will not continue until they solve our budget issues. Liquor, Cigarettes, the Lottery and also our Casinos will have to shut down until all is figured out.

Michigan has done the things you hear crazy right wingers talk about. It is a state with social programs for everything. Unfortunately, free stuff isn't free. The governor is now raising taxes to unprecedented levels to fund these programs. Taxes kill. Economists are concerned that the stifling of creative energy in Michigan is going to make a state government which is already in collapse, shut down due to negative cash flow. It is highly unlikely it will get to that point. Tax cuts are inevitable as is the state's recovery. Once taxes are cut, after the collapse, monies and creative energy should flow to Michigan like never before and create all kinds of opportunities beyond auto making. The strike by the autoworkers has harmed their opportunities for the foreseeable future and union jobs will continue to disappear as GM restructures to remain viable.

If you are talking about the Wolverines, they lost their first two games, meaning opponents "shut them down". Then they clobbered Notre Dame, the fumbling Irish, and won again so they are 2-2. Average, but hardly world shaking. Meanwhile, having lost some of their top talent, Ohio State is 4-0 and favored by 23 this weekend. Only ranked 8th in the nation, compared to 1st all year last year when they went 12-0 in the regular season.

shut down of STATE Government offices due to no money to pay for it. The Governor is really trying to force the state legislature to come up with a budget quicker. By forcing the shut down of offices, she puts many employees out of work (even a few days can affect a lot of people's personal budgets). to prevent that, they are hoping that the legistature will finalize the budget and avert the shut down.

It's partisan brinksmanship, nothing more, nothing less. Granholm blames the republicans because they don't want to fund her "drunken sailor spending spree" big government ideas with higher taxes.
Michigan voters will "shutdown" this administration next election-hopefully.
