referr to wrinkles as "unsightly"? It makes women feel bad about ageing, something that comes to us all. They are selling their product by making women feel inadequate.

Yes I know about youth culture and I don't care for myself. I just don't like the way women are made to feel about themselves by advertising and the media. It's about time we took a stand.

Goldwing I live in London so I don't know about Madison Avenue, my concern is for the women who are not aware and are taken in by this stuff, which is mainly promoted by men.Women also, I know. Those who want to make money off the backs of the gullible. This is turning into a rant and I didn't mean it to.

It would be nice if they just dropped the word "unsightly" in their advertising, but it's all in selling the product and making the $$$. Seems you hear it more and more too . . . unsightly facial hair, unsightly veins, unsightly age spots, unsightly bra straps . . . it's just marketing swaying the consumer to buy. I don't like it either!

I agree. The word "unsightly" is just wrong.
I would rather have laugh lines on my face. At least it shows I laugh. I feel sorry for the women who get all the face lifts for unnecessary reason.
I can understand someone using Botox if they have premature aging that affects the way they look, but I would not be able to afford that myself. Besides, I would probably end up being one of the few who have no expression at all. LOL.

Yes, it's a value judgment. By transferring that word "unsightly" into another sentence, about another natural facial feature which another group usually wants to be rid of, we get:
"Men, do you want to get rid of that unsightly beard ? Then use BlahBlah shaving cream/ razors" Can you imagine the manly outrage ?
In the past, a pregnant tum, spectacles and freckles were all considered unsightly, and people felt they had to conceal them. I cannot wait for the day when wrinkles are nothing to be ashamed of. I'm certainly not ashamed of mine. I look very like my Dad, who died at 30. I like to think I am growing this face old for him - he never got the chance.

For pete's sake, this is Madison Avenue talking! Their job is to sell, yours is to sort through the bull and buy what you want. I agree that the ad lines are insidious, but at least, by reliazing what is going on, you are forearmed. IF we were to allow Madison Avenue to describe our values as peolpe, we would be flat out broke in no time at all. No skin cream made is going to erase what time has done...period. There are NO hidden secrets of a Countess in Europe that will help. Do as you want, but realize that the least expensive skin care is about as good as the most expensive. Not an advertisement, but comparitive studies done on skin care ranging from all but no cost to 200-300 per bottle say that the Oil of Olay at 20.00 is as good as any, if not better. So much for the advertisements you see. I use nothing, and my face shows it!

Just wants to be demeaning I guess. My wrinkles aren't unsightly but if I can minimize them I do.
My beef is why do they keep using young, wet-behind-the-ears models with no skin flaws or wrinkles to advertise the stuff instead of using boomers since its geared for that age group anyway. Geez

Very true but sadly that's the way of marketing nowadays, a company will go to any lengths (as long as legally) to sell their product, I remember seeing an advertisement with Eva Longoria speaking recently about a skincare product and she said "there is no way I could survive without it" which I personally think is a tad extreme.
The bright side is that we always have a choice on wether or not we want to purchase a product and that, to some extend, gives us power over these companies.
Try not to worry about it and remember nature created wrinkles, man created products to get rid of them millions of years later. :)

It's all Hogwash!
Save your money age gracefully and use middle of the road products. They have the majority of the same ingredients. A bit of scent is not worth $45 an ounce or an extract from a rare tree in Peru does not a moisturizer make. I'm all for letting life take its toll on my body. At least I enjoyed the ride.

It's the same as telling us we should colour our unsightly gray hair. I admit it, I used to in younger years but I actually like my gray hair(it's more silver) and I have earned every single one!
