my husband it constantly correcting people spelling or pronouncing his name, it drives not only him crazy but myself. Do your child a favor spell it correctly being different in this case is kind of a selfish thing. I don't mean to sound rude but seriously Stephanie is very cute , I even have a girlfriend who's 5 year old girl is named Steven. Just please spell it right for your child's sanity :)

I think you should name your child whatever makes you happy!! The spelling of a child's name does not define them and who they are! My name is very simple Jana and no one EVER pronounces it correctly they say it like Jenna! So even the simplest names can be mis-pronounced and it hasn't ruined my life! So if you like it spelled that way she is your child you do what you want!

I got on here a few months ago when I was pregnant to ask for feed back on what I wanted to name my son and people were really rude and made fun, but I still named my son what I wanted and it fits him perfectly and everyone LOVES it!

BTW my son Mavric Dylan Eis (eis=ice)

That would be "Stee-vah-nee" or "Steh-vah-nee" but it does not come out to "Steh-fah-nee"

In my opinion it will cause confusion.

It is really up to you what you do. In my opinion you should really consider the social implications of any name.
Will the name grow well with the child?
Does the name have any other meaning?
Do the initials spell something you probably don't want to spell, or mean the same as something you don't want to associate with?
Is it something kids can really make fun of?
Obviously you want something unique, but keep other things in mind while you determine this.

I don't think they'd call her Stef-a-nee, at least not at first. Her teacher would say Stev-a-nee, where is Stevani.

I like the originality, and I don't think it's so strange that people won't get used to it. If you want to spell it that way, go ahead. It won't be overly difficult for your child to have a uniquely spelled name.

People would pronounce it wrong all the time - Steev'-a-nee, Stef-an'-ee (like Gwen), etc.

If you like the name Stephanie, call her Stephanie or Stefanie and spell it like that. :)

It's interesting - but every teacher will mis-pronounce it. My name is Leigh and my whole life people have done that and my name isn't even spelled weird.
