I'm going to go with B, but that requires a long period of uplift and then a long period of time for sufficient erosion to occur to have what we traditionally view as mountains.

A, B, and C ARE basically the same.

D. also causes mountains and relatively quickly but erosion of uplifted highlands is more common, but takes a lot longer.

And to tell the truth I forget whether uplift can occur independently of plate collision. And if it does, how common is it? When I first took my geology classes the concept of continental drift was considered silly, and the idea of plates hadn't occured.

Tell the teacher I don't particularly like his question. Mine used to be much more fun.

From the ground up?

OK, not that. Than it must be B.
