I would say, for against the british, Buddhists are.

I know there are exceptions (like the anti-war protests in the uk)

If you look at the IRA, or the Islamic fundamentalists, we only gave them their country back after they stopped being such naughty little cry babies and stopped bombing us. But look at ghandi in india or hong kong...they are some of the most strongest economies on theplanet and they will beat us all now, not a shot fired. We gave them their countries back happily and stayed friends and all the better for it, the uk respect decency and honour.

My point is, if muslim societies cound manage a peacefull protest between them (yes I know bad apples blahblah), then they would have the symapathy of the world, like the Bhurmese monks, and we wouldn't all vaguely dislike or mistrust them. (not that I do, but as a pacifist, it's hard to feel sympathy for those who attack the west despite guantanamo or Iraq)

Where do you get this tripe? Northern Ireland still hasn't been returned to the Irish people. The IRA fought a war of independence from January 1919 to July 1921 with which they won Irish independence of the rest of their island by force of arms. Luckily for them the Germans had weakened the British so badly in WW1 that the IRA had a fighting chance to defeat them.

Not true. All of Gandhi's peaceful protests degenerated into violence.

Second, there were many shots fired in the liberation of India. WW2 bankrupted the Britain and by the end of the war they were in no position to try and reclaim their empire. The real liberator of India was Adolf Hitler. Coincidentally, many captured Indian troops chose to serve and fight for the Germans in Heer and Waffen-SS units.

The Infanterie-Regiment 950 (indische), or Legion Freies Indien, was formed 26 Aug 1942 from Indian volunteers fighting in the British 3rd (Indian) Motorised Brigade and other units captured in North Africa.

In 1944, they were transfered to the Waffen-SS as the Indische Freiwilligen Legion der Waffen-SS and fought in France and Germany till the end of the war.

The muslims ALREADY HAVE the sympathy of much of the world.

Those who beat their swords into ploughshares will do the plowing for those who do not.

As Emiliano Zapata said, 'it is better to die on your feet than live on your knees.'

Consider what happened to the Buddhists in China. Many died in non-violent self emollient protests. The Chinese just say, "Oh, good. One less monk."

Different parts of the world have different histories, religions, and customs. Unfortunately at this time, peace is not the lowest common denominator.

Depends on how you define "effective". Likely all groups would like to claim theirs is most effective based on that, however I agree, the peaceful, virtuous attempts in any religions, like Buddhism are the most effective.
