I used to work in a boarding kennel and we also did grooming. To bathe a cat, we took a milk crate and placed over them in the tub, then wet them down gently. Then,we had to remove the crate to soap them up and this is when they usually bit us, and we would put the crate back over them to rinse and get them wrapped in a towel ASAP. It sucked and cat bites are rough.

How to wash a cat:

1. Put both lids of the toilet up and add 1/8 cup of pet shampoo to the water in the bowl.

2. Pick up the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.

3. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close both lids. You may need to stand on the lid.

4. The cat will self agitate and make ample suds. Never mind the noises that come from the toilet, the cat is actually enjoying this.

5. Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides a "power-wash and rinse".

6. Have someone open the front door of your home. Be sure that there are no people between the bathroom and the front door.

7. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift both lids.

8. The cat will rocket out of the toilet, streak through the bathroom, and run outside where he will dry himself off.

9. Both the commode and the cat will be sparkling clean.

Yes and to be honest it's an experience I avoid whenever possible.
Cats have the ability to corkscrew around and get you even when you think it's impossible ( scruff of the neck does not work)
generally it's a 2 person job - 1 to hold the cat and 1 to do the actual washing. One of mine escaped half way through and managed to get on top of the shower rail !

One time the cat fell on my lap as I was taking a bath. Panic ensued. My poor thighs were very scratched and the cat is now very cautious near the tub.

I do not own a cat. So no. And I use a hose sometimes to shoo the strays away. Just point water and they go away!
LOL. I came in to see the answers mainly.

I guess the thing to do is start them young.

Yes. By the time it's over, my arms are covered with scratches, my cat looks more like a drowned rat, and he doesn't trust me to get near him for a few hours.

I have never washed a cat...and I had a cat for 14 years...her fur was perfect...she groomed herself constantly.....

No, I am not crazy! I would never put a cat in water on purpose and try to hold on to it! I like my blood INSIDE my body!
