Because cycles can be very irregular and some can have shorter cycles, their fertile days (5-7 days before ovulation) can be during and immediately after their period. So while they do not ovulate while having a period, since sperm can live inside the body for several days, one can become pregnant if they ovulate immediately after their period. Make sense?

The answer is right there in your question. You said "typically" and "on avg" women ovulate on day 14. Well, women are not machines and they don't run like clockwork. Some have short or irregular cycles. They could ovulate much earlier than day 14.
For example, if you had sex on day 5 (while still menstruating), and you ovulated on day 8 (the sperm has still survived inside you) the chances of you getting pregnant are quite high.

my monthlys were only 24 days apart so I ovulated a little earlier than the 14 days. Sperm can live for 3-5 days so by time I was ovulating if I were to have sex during my monthly or shortly after then I got pregnant. Happened to me so far 3 times. It is possible if you are ovulating. SOme women just ovulate earlier then others.

Sometimes this does happen -- often a woman will have bleeding during pregnancy, but less regularly than her period and more like 'spotting' than a full flow of blood. Other times, women continue to have normal periods and they don't know they're pregnant until a bump appears! However, this is certainly the exception rather than the rule. Your wife's cycles might be changing, as many people's do, so that she isn't actually 'late' each month, but simply that her cycles are now longer than they used to be. I think all women notice changes to their cycles over the years and this is perfectly normal.

There are a lot of women that actually have spotting with ovulation and falsely believe that they got pregnant on their periods, or they had sex 3-7 days before they ovulated and then again just before their periods and believe they got pregnant then. Sometimes in EXTREMELY RARE exeptions a woman DOES get pregnant on her period, but she usually had extremely irregular periods.

Because "day 14" is a statistical average, not an accurate predictor of when an individual woman will actually ovulate.
If you ovulate early, and there's sperm there to meet it, well...

Because conception does not take place the second the sperm enters the woman, and sperm can hang around for while in there looking for its target.
Also, you are not guaranteed to ovulate only at 14 days. It varies from woman to woman, and often from month to month.
There is no 'safe' time of month when it comes to pregnancy.
