Join the crowd of those who don't understand why anyone reports such innocuous postings. We seem to have roving users who consider themselves to be policmen, report any and all of what they consider, "violations." Was the post really a question? Was an answer really an answer? These people seem to have little in life to do, and probably have NO power in their personal lives....a very sad bunch, indeed. I don't even rate answers, for everyone's opinion is their own, and they are free to express it. NOW, there is one exception .. I will report any and all questions that are obviously troll postings having to do with discrimination and bashing of any group of people..but here, in this section, we don't have that going on. IF a member wants to share insanity, so what! It seems that violations in this section are more a personal vendetta of some kind or other going on, and that is beneath contempt to me. IF for any reason, you do not like what someone posts, then skip by the posting and on to the next.
But there is a solution that is harmless...if violations are such that build up to the point of being "kicked off the board," open a new account with a variation of the name. Unfortunately, you start at level one again, but points mean nothing here, so it is no big deal. But to report any postings I have seen here is beyond foolish, it is a waste of time, and just blatantly mean spirited. Good luck and peace, Phil

I believe part of your question is also one I had to get answers for, the difference between thumbs down(which is basically saying, "I disagree")and violating someone, which is reporting them to YA for a violation of the rules. that requires you to hit the button "REPORT IT", and follow the directions. I havent ever had to do that in here, and I have only used that drastic step for VERY racist, sexist, homophobic, inflammatory posts by obvious trolls. you mostly see those in R&S or LGBT.
some folks on here think that a thumbs down is a violation... it is NOT! it's someone saying, "I disagree with your answer".
I have noticed on here that someone is definitely mis-using that button, but hey - they are pretty obvious aren't they? and pretty silly, too. I don't mind getting a thumbs down when someone disagrees with my position on something. I like the give and take, as long as it's POLITE.

I love to ask questions and I am all over the place doing just that{about 10 other sites} and I thought we seniors were class act and I have seen nothing wrong other than they chat with one another which is against the rule,,,Other wise I think we seniors are a cut above and can talk about anything but then we all have a bit of class and back"ground" to do just that.. And I am with you I have no idea what a troll is or how they look or act.

Hey, don't worry about it. I asked a question one day and I got two "teenage" responses.
1. "My granny hates you."
2. "My granny hates you."
Two different names. I thought it was funny.
I don't think you can get a violation by a thumbs down. I will warn you that I got a notice from Yahoo when I first joined Yahoo. I answered with a question followed by my answer. One of the rules is not to answer with a question. It is a stupid rule, but, oh, well. Why anyone would bother with such trivia is beyond my understanding. It was not on Seniors site.

I am not sure about the thumbs down question.
You know that Trolls enjoy stirring up havoc. They have no boundaries. It's sad but true. I agree that this site is the most non-contentious.

Some on is as agitated as a sore tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. For the life of me I cannot imagine why. Perhaps we should take it as a compliment that we ole duffs can irritate someone enough for them to harrass us.

Southern Comfort, that was hilarious!! These trolls stir up a stink then hide, when everybody gets to arguing they appear again. I know who they are and they gave themselves away when they attacked Eve T and got our QA taken off and we got violations. Big deal who cares???

Yes, I have had someone following me around and giving me thumbs down since last night. I even received an apology from a user who's question I answered. Little things please little minds.
