Sea Kelp do contain calcium, iron, zinc and iodine, so clearly will have the benefits of these vitamins.
Taken daily they boost the immune system, improve circulation and make bones stronger - they don't work to make your hair grow faster .
P.S.
Supplements of iodine may be an important source for individuals who do not eat seafoods, animal flesh, animal products, or iodised salt, or who have a greater requirement for iodine (such as pregnant or breastfeeding women).
Iodine is a listed ingredient in a range of multivitamin supplements available at health food stores, and the dose can vary from 50–150 mcg per tablet. Kelp tablets are a type of seaweed extract, and can provide an alternative iodine source.
But check with your doctor before starting to take iodine (or any other) supplements. As applies to many supplements and over-the-counter drugs, too much iodine can be toxic. Although most individuals can tolerate a wide range of iodine intake, exposure to extremely high levels (above 1,000 micrograms per day) is potentially harmful. Excessive iodine intake is especially dangerous for those people with a predisposition to “Grave’s Disease”, because high levels of iodine can trigger this condition in susceptible people.
Use only those tablets that state the iodine content on the label, so you know how much you are getting. And, as mentioned above, don’t forget to check first with your doctor that the iodine content of the supplement is appropriate.

All interesting and valid, except that I would disagree that it doesn't make your hair grow.. Mine grew so quickly that I couldn't keep up with retouching my roots! I would say it was growing approximately a third faster than usual. However this may have been due to the quality of the product. It came from a reputable health store. (Whereas one or two 'bargain' supplementsor I have used since then didn't increase my hair growth at all.) on the TV programme Stars In Their Eyes, a contestant had been advised by the make-up dept to take Kelp to speed up her hair growth for the big night.... And it did!

To grow you hair???
I can honestly say I've never heard of Kelp (or the Iodine in it) helping to grow hair.... and I've been working with a vitamin company for almost 2 1/2 years. There's also not a "toxic level" listed for minerals, primarily because it will vary for every single person depending on weight, body chemistry, diet, and how sensitive your body is to the particular mineral.
For Iodine, 550 mg isn't too much... that's probably around 333 mcg of Iodine, which is just over 200% of the RDA, and I've seen some supplements at 250% of the RDA.
If you want to find something to help your hair, I'd recommend trying Biotin, Silica, MSM, Foti, and maybe some Collagen for helping with healthy hair, which may help it grow.

Kelp contains a fair bit of aluminium so don't take more than the recommended amounts because aluminium is bad for you in large amounts and is toxic in large amounts and is also supposed to be one of the causes of Alzheimer's disease and other problems. Instead of aluminium vessels for cooking you should use stainless steel vessels. A lot of body deodorants also contain aluminium.
