Unless you're using some sort of high mileage oil meant to go this long, I think you're pushing your luck. 3000 mile intervals are recommended, 4000 is allowable, 5000 is stretching it if you're doing light-duty driving (easy acceleration, no really hot weather, smooth cruising at highway speeds). You're saving $30 for an oil change, but risking maybe thousands of dollars in engine damage. Not a smart move, in my book.

It should be changed every 3000. miles for good maintenance. The check engine light may be for some other reason. go to a garage and ask that all your fluids be checked or get a man you know to do it if you don't know how....you don't want to run a dry transmission or have a radiator overheat.....just do it! If it's not that sometimes it can be just the sensor itself that is bad. that means getting it fixed or being really dilligent about getting your maintenance checked. We are into warm weather and antifreeze is needed for hot as well as cold weather. If you think, when you change your time beck and forward each year...have your antifreeze checked and you will be good. It's really that simple. don't ignore any care for the car, you will pay later. You can go another 500 miles but I really wouldn't go any longer without the oil change.....there are so many places that till do it for about 20 bucks, it's just not worth it. some will allow you to bring your own oil if it's a local garage...just call and ask. Good luck. Miss Mary

Your probably pushing your luck at this point...
You are right to not believe that oil changes need to be done every 3,000 miles, but 7,500 is stretching it a bit unless your using expensive synthetic oil that doesn't break down like "normal" oil does. Even if you are running synthetic in your car...It's time to change it.
I have mine done at the beginning of every season which averages out to about 5,000 to 5,500 miles between oil changes and I've never had a problem with it.
Hope that helps.
Good Luck!

While I agree You should change your oil regularly...dont be a slave to this premise
Lets be realistic People used to NEVER change the oil in their cars and they would run for tens of thousands of miles (40-50-+) And that was before the massive overall improvements in a car engine & the fluids to run it.
So going 7500 miles without changing your oil has likely had about 0.0001 difference on the life of your car as oppoesd to hanging it at 3000 miles

I wouldn't risk my Ford powertrain warranty. Have your oil changed at a Ford dealer according to your Ford maintenance schedule. They use Motorcraft synblend oil and oil filters. Then you'll know the dealer will honor your warranty if you have engine troubles. You may snub your nose at this and most likely not have major engine failure, but they do happen! After the warranty expires, you can go from there as to where to get your oil changes.

You're maxed out. Get an oil change ASAP. 7,500 miles is the most you can do without an oil change for the type of driving you do, and that's stretching it unless you use blended or full synthetic motor oil.

I change the oil every 3000 miles and I have 140,000 miles on my car with no engine issues so far. Be smart about it and just get it done!

3000 miles unless otherwise instructed by the dealer
we can go every 3500-4000 but that's what the dealer & the owners manual has told us...we have an 07 Subaru

its time for an oil change, in answer to your question, go until your engine blows up, then it will cost thousands to get your engine fixed. Think of an oil change as cheap insurance
