Assuming in the long term that China is peaceful and prosperous will people eventually think Nixon was brilliant to restore US/PRC relations, and that Watergate stuff was just a footnote?

I'd say about equal, based on two phrases that will be remembered from his presidency.

"Only Nixon could go to China."

"I am not a crook."

Someof the new generation will think that because of the BAM opera "Nixon in China."
