A row is horizontal (left to right.)
A column is vertical (up and down.)

Row is one whch goes HORIZONTAL...
Column is one which VERTICAL..

For example... See the below given matrix...

5 6 9
8 3 6


Here its a 2*3 matrix... in this... 5 6 9 and 8 3 6 are ROWS... and then 5 8 , 6 3 , 9 6 are COLUMNS..

A row goes across, a column goes down.

When I get confused I just think of columns in buildings because they go up.

column go side way.

doing spread sheet?

when u want to make lot of boxes.... u need to know how many rows you want and how many columns.
so let say u want a box with six by five
then u would make it 6 columns and five rows.
how u have 6 boxes going horizontal
and 5 boxes going vertical.
