I'm into all kinds of music and am really into depressing songs lately...
I'm compiling a mix cd that just has some of the saddest songs, musically AND lyrically.
Some are The Cure - To Wish Impossible Things
Last Days of April - The Days I Recall Being Wonderful
Stabbing Westward - Why
The Smiths - Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want.

Judging by some of those styles, can anyone recommend other songs/artists I should check out and consider for my ultimate sad emo mix? Thanks in advance!

Okay okay! Obviously I shouldn't have said emo. I said emo because one of the bands listed (Last Days of April) is emo. I know the others aren't but when i say emo, I'm going my own way in saying it's an "emo"tionally sad cd. That's all. Calm down people! :P

Type O Negative - "Die With Me"
Alice In Chains - "Down in a Hole"
Ours - "Dizzy"
Smashing Pumpkins - "Disarm"
Placebo - "Ask for Answers", "Without You I'm Nothing"
Nine Inch Nails - "Hurt", "Something I Can Never Have"

They all have several other songs that would qualify, these are just a few to check out.

And for the love of all things music, The Smiths are not emo either, but they are one of my most favs. Now Morrissey solo is a bit more dark. The London Suede, Portis Head, The Sundays....

http://www.sirius.com/firstwave they say they play a darker list of these bands.

*****Honestly, I think country music is the most depressing music.*****

First off, please don't call The Cure and Stabbing Westward emo. That is wrong on so many levels. Here are some bands to consider.

Gravity Kills
Filter
Cocteau Twins
Lush
Curve
The Mission UK

You'd probably like HIM. Try songs like "Join Me In Death", "Bury Me Deep Inside Your Heart", and "When Love And Death Embrace."
