Looking for band name or rest of the lyrics Please!!!?

There was a song that I heard back in the late 80's. All me and my friend can remember, is that the song had the words "I don't want to be alone, I said I don't want to be alone, don't wanna be lonely"

I know this song but i can't put my finger on it. When i first said the words out loud, images popped in my head. I'm thinking Al Green, Lenny Williams or R Kelly but i can't quite figure it out without more to go on.
