I'm having a contractor install an underground sprinkler system. He said that he would be using Rainbird sprinkler heads, but now that they are all in the ground, I noticed that only the fixed heads are Rain Bird; the rest are Irritrol.

Does anyone know anything about Irritrol? Should I insist that he switch out the Irritrols with Rainbirds?

From time I've spent in Irrigation forums, I would say that Irritrol is not exactly a crappy product.

But in the end, it depends upon what is in the contract.

For what it's worth, it sounds like he did what he said he would, but just didn't give the whole story. In the world of irrigation, 'heads' is usually used in reference to fixed sprays, while 'rotors' is usually used in reference to the other type. So even if you only had an oral contract, it can still be argued that he lived up to the contract, you just misunderstood it (hence the real reason for written contracts).

Demand what you paid for and was told would be used. I have not heard of Irritrol. If you need repair parts in the future, Rainbird is sold everywhere.

Rainbird is the best, better tell them to get those cheap Irritrols out of there.
