"Sh!t happens" it is a term that prisoners use to answer their questions on why they are delt such a rotten hand in life.
What do you see as the meaning? What can this simple term do to explain why bad things happen to good people. Or vice versa?

it is most often used to refer to negative things that happen that the person feels they had no control over, could not forsee,
i am not sure it would apply to the situation most prisoners find theirself in, for if they are guilty of the crime, they could contemplate they would end up in jail , though i guess it could be used in the context of it meaning something didnt go as you planned it

As to my understanding, good people doesnt always turn out to be a good solver in everything they faced, not even in sudoku. :) Simple phrase as it is, but the term is the exactly phrase that currently displaying in everyone's life. You, me, and everyone who is reading this answer were not exempted from quoting such phrase when we coming to an halt. Yes, some people claiming themself can handle out their problem alone. Such lies!

One has control over only so many things in life - there are other things that can happen, even if you are doing every thing right - and you cannot control these events. Such as cancer, an accident, being in wrong place at wrong time, etc.

I guess a polite way to translate this expression would be, "bad things happen." The speaker accepts the fact that he/she can't control certain aspects of life, and makes the decision to go on.

it's a term used alot in life not just prisons.
It's means things just happen get over it stop dwelling.
The kids use get over it build a bridge or I built a bridge meaning I'm over it already.

it's their simple expression of everything..when thoughts and answers come rushing in your mind you end up with confusion..when prisoners say that, they actually sum everything into it..

the meaning is "i don't care really" sort of like "it is what it is" they are not taking responsibility for there actions.
