It's not meant to be true. It's based on Dan Brown's novel.
The history of Jesus is difficult to know. We do not know when he was born - even what year! The current system of dates used by much of the world (at least in the West) is based on the year "0" being the birth of Christ, yet Jesus was probably born closer to 5 BC. We have historical evidence that Herod the Great died in 4 BC, and according to the Gospels, Jesus was at risk of death as a baby when Herod ordered all male babies killed. If Herod was a threat, Jesus must have been a baby before Herod died. As for the December 25th date of birth, that was invented by early Church fathers because no one knew the real birthday. Whether Jesus had a wife, engaged in sex, or fathered any children - the simple answer is that no one knows for sure. People "believe" what they want to believe. There has been no real proof to answer these intriguing questions.

The historical evidence for the life of Jesus is indeed slim, if not non-existent. But if you want to indulge the novel a little, the Bible does say that Jesus had brothers, so he was not an only child. Incredibly, Mary could not have been a virgin. (In addition, Mary was most likely about 13 when she married the much older Joseph. Just think about how that would look today! Sexual abuse of a minor!)
Mary Magdalene poured a vial of expensive oil on the head of Jesus, so expensive that his disciples argued that this was a huge waste of money, to which Jesus replied, The poor you will always have with you, me you will not. Mary Magdalene was then a person of wealth. Somebody supported Jesus and his disciples with housing and food, and it was probably Mary.
As to his having had a child with her, it's possible. Jesus was considered a rabbi (this is how the Jewish bible speaks of him) and it was unheard of for a rabbi to be single. Then there is the rather fierce stance Jesus takes on celibacy. These two things alone convince Jews that Jesus was not the Messiah, as Jews did not believe in celibacy. Jesus also said that If you want to follow me you must hate your father and your mother, your sister and your brother. This too shocked the Jews and is very un-Jewish (and anti-family, no matter what the Fundies say).
But even if Jesus did have a child and they did escape to Gaul and they did have descendants among the Merovingians (as the book "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" argues, this would hardly be a cause for celebration, as the Merovingins were bloody butchers. And if there were any secret documents about this lineage of Jesus, now would be the time to bring them out. The fact that no one has produced even a forgery is telling. The movie is complete fiction, although there are some real things in it. Opus Dei is a bunch of fanatics but no one has accused them of murder yet.

A great deal of it is fiction. It is based on a novel by Dan Brown built on various "theories" that most respectable historians would consider fringe at best. If however you want to know more, read the book "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" where at lot of the ideas from the Davinci code were taken. (So much the authors of this book sued Dan Brown)

Well, Dan Brown wrote what I like to call "historical fiction with a twist of suspense" which means not everything is true and not everything is false either. The Opeus Dei (or however you spell it) is a real part of the Catholic Church but it might not be what it was in the book. If you want to know the history of Jesus then read the Bible and go to Church

As we say in the UK 'it's all a load of old codswallop' The Priory of Sion was shown to be an invention of the 1950s long before Dan Brown wrote his book, yet he writes as if that were not the case. I have been to Roslyn Chapel, however, and it is a fantastic place. What is more interesting than Dan Brown's fictions is how it has a carving - said to have been done long before Columbus - which shows an ear of maize (corn), which of course, was unknown in Europe before the discovery of the New World.

the history of jesus? There are NO historical accounts of jesus that date back to the time he actually lived. The Romans don't mention him. Not even in their census. (wich was, according to the bible, the reason why his parents were called back to Nazareth/Bethlehem). Biblestudy reveals us that the 4 cannonical evangelions were all writen 30+ years after his supposed death.
About the davinci code: wake up.

It's based on the general assumption that Jesus Christ was an actual person and not a character in a book. This is like asking if the movie "the lord of the rings" was true or not. Was Frodo a good person, er hobbit?

It is a movie based on a fictional book so it is probably not true.
