Cary Elwes, the actor you're referring to, does films all the time so I'm not sure what you mean. Princess Bride was his first comedy though as he is really considered a "dramatic" actor. You should check out his profile at IMDB:

The guy who played Wesley WAS in other movies. His name is Cary Elwes. He played Robin Hood in the Mel Brooks spoof "Robin Hood: Men in Tights," he played opposite Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt as rival tornado chaser Jonas Miller in "Twister," he played alongside Morgan Freeman (but turned out to be a bad guy) in "Kiss the Girls," he played opposite Jim Carrey as Maura Tierney's new love interest in "Liar, Liar," he was one of the actors featured in Tom Hanks' HBO series "From the Earth to the Moon," and I'm trying to remember what TV show he was on for a while...
