my brothers praying mantis layed an egg sack, and we (mainly him.) wanted to know, if you could mate brothers and sisters

Yes, of course you can.

In the animal (and bug) world, this is perfectly ok.

This is how they get 'pure bred' dogs.

Yes, insects can interbreed. Look at the bee species. The queen bee breeds with her own sons, then sends out her own daughters and sons to begin new hives together.

But......praying mantis will eat their own young, and each other. I hope you are taking that into account. Here is a good website for getting more info on breeding praying mantises.

I would not recommend crossing siblings. You may not see it in the first generation but it will cause problems on a genetic level that will then affect future generations. Leading to unhealthy or birth defects.

No. Incest (mating relatives) can cause many mutations or genetic diseases. They will also overall not be very healthy.

I guess you could. It might would cause some weird mantises but it probably wouldn't be too bad.
