I'd go with more traditional spellings because your son will need to spell it to EVERYONE. Aaron, David, Isaac (even if you pronounce it Daveed, no one else will--ex friends, teachers, etc). Nikolas is fine, although it is more of an Italian name than Spanish, especially with that spelling. I like Nikolas David or Isaac Diego. I wouldn't name him Diego, especially with all the hype with the cartoon character Diego (Dora the Explorer's cousin.

David--because it means "my beloved" and my significant other is named David. Surprise! Surprise!
Additionally, I like names that aren't "common" but that aren't hard to spell or pronounce either. For instance:
Travis
Cole
Noah
Jordan
Ricardo
Kent
Kenyon
Adam
Hoyt
Guy
I have a tendency to like short names, but only because my last name was/is long, so if your last name is Ward you might want to consider choosing a longer name for his first name, consider how the names "roll" off the tongue, how they sound together, and well as the number of syllables. I knew a guy once who's initials were CCCIII--the three c's were his names and the III because he was named after this father and grandfather, so be careful of initials too. My daughter would have had the initials *** if I had not caught it in time!
I would also "google" whatever name I chose to make certain there was nobody in history who had that same combination of names and it turned out to be somebody infamous that you had never heard of before--but other, older people had. You don't want your son to be ridiculed as a boy in my class from high school was because his name was Lee Harvey, the alledged assassin of President Kennedy.
Good luck. I hope I've helped some.
