No, they are ghosts, not aliens.

Maybe alien ghosts.

In order for me to know for sure that it is a communication from aliens is for me to sit with your friend while he listens to the radio. It is possible that the "white noise" that he is hearing is alien communication.

Your friend probably needs medications. Some of the white noise on your television represents energy from the big bang, but communication of any sort would be designed to stand above the background level of random radio noise and be easily identifiable.

We know that much of the white noise is from natural cosmic sources, but if noise that can be received with a regular home radio contained alien communications I would think that SETI would have figured that out LONG ago.

SETI is the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence by listening for radio transmissions. Lots of scientists have been listening to noise from space for decades and doing their best to determine if any of it is artificial signals from intelligent aliens. See the source.

I would suggest that your friend seeks professional counseling.
The 'white noise' you hear between radio stations is actually the sound of background radiation left over from the 'Big Bang', for the most part.

No, because communication would be a coherent signal. It's by definition broad band. A broadband coherent signal would change amplitude by a factor of 20dB if the bandwidth of the receiver is changed by a factor of ten. The noise on the radio changes by a factor of 10dB for every decade of bandwidth change, indicating that it is gaussian white noise generated by the circuits inside your receiver.

Much of this is actually the "noise" left over from the Big Bang - so you're friend is not so far from the truth.

Well, I don't know about aliens, but it could be a tool to help you get in touch with communication from your higher self, or your soul.

I think maybe your friend needs to put the foil lining back in his hat.
