The weather in our county today is 16 degrees, light winds and dry. Mary wants to know if the kids are gingerbread kids. What are we coming to I ask.

The original sports day was cancelled due the the field being waterlogged. Today has been a perfect late sept day in sunny Shroppieland, ideal for the children to get some exercise. We are breeding some strange kids in Britain today, half are whinging Walters, sniffy noses with mummy standing by with tissues, the other half are destined to a life of crime. Please someone tell us there is something in the middle. I personally think the head teacher has lost the plot and should be replaced.

I heard it too, it was the Meadows School in Oswestry.
Someone came on the radio and said that schools used to cancel sports day because it was too hot and the children could get sunstroke sitting outside all afternoon, but this is ridiculous.
They should have told all the children to wear a tracksuit (or trousers and a jumper) and to bring a coat.
They'd soon warm up running about.
I can remember having to to PE outside at school in winter wearing a gym skirt - my legs used to get so red with the cold, but we came to no harm.

Having sports days in the freezing cold is what made me hate PE with a passion! Sadistic teachers trying to make me have fun while my arms, nose and toes are blue with cold!

Ok so its not THAT cold yet, but arent sports days supposed to be spring/summer time?

My regards to Mary!

Thats ridiculous, my school did a sponsored 6 mile run today in the pouring rain, if you can't do a sports day because its a bit nippy thats a joke.

Sports day was always in the summer at my school, cross country running? Now that's a different story, my school's policy on that was the colder and wetter the better!

The country is going to the dogs, old man.

The pain, misery and wretched humiliation of Sports Day was an essential part of British education.

It took a great deal of brains, tenacity, skill and guile for me to get out of doing it, I remember!

I suppose today's fat, lazy milksop children are too thick to get themselves out of it, and utterly reliant on mummy's car to travel any distance more than twenty feet.

what a load of tosh. in todays PC mad world, some schools dont even have a sports day because its unfair on kids who are not athletic.

thats like saying brazil are not allowed to enter the world cup because its unfair to england

Ah. The vital words 'sports day' have been added. It all makes sense now. You're lucky - in Surrey we have torrential rain today.
