I am receiving an i/o device error on my laptop, what could be the problem?

I have went through the troubleshoot and still the cd rom will not run. Also the software I am trying to run was previously on this system but was removed.

Either the CD is bad, or something is wrong with the CD Drive. Does it happen with every CD? If so, it's the drive. If it's just that CD, I would say it's the CD itself.

that is bad sign it might had viruses or being curupted ... pls check it or try to scan
