Dude?
Do you really mean virtual memory? - If you're getting the message that windows is running out of virtual memory and you should close down some applications there are two things you should do...
1) Make some room on your HDD. See if there's anything on there that you can delete, run the error checker and do a defrag..
2) - And this is not for the faint-hearted.. Some laptops (if you're lucky) have a little hatch on the bottom where the RAM board is.. I say RAM board and not memory chips 'cos usually, that's exactly what it is, a little circuit board of its own..
Go to your Laptop Manuf.s website and see if they do larger RAM boards.. it should be a straight swap if they do.. Remember, it's an 'instead of' not an 'as well as'
So if you've got 256meg.. And you want 512 then you have to buy 512..
Good luck soldier

Follow this (XP only)
Start- control panel- performance and maintenance.
click on 'see basic information on your computer'
In the box that pops up click the 'advanced' tab.
Then click on performance, then settings- 'advanced' tab again.
This will bring you to 'virtual memory'- click on change.
Select either the recommended amount of virtual memory or a little more.
Don't go too mad, as this reduces the available space on your hard drive.click ok
I know this looks complicated, but if you go step by step it's very simple, and will make a big difference to your pc's speed.

Go to control panel - system - advanced - performance options - advanced - virtual memory - change. Here you can select the actual setting you want to use for your paging file or you can let windows adjust the size as required.

Virtual Memory is just RAM emulated on your hard drive. If you are getting an error that you are low on Virtual Memory, you need to do 2 things:
Buy more RAM
Buy a larger Hard Drive
Both are getting low.
