-Microsoft is a convicted monopolist.
-Though none of them have achieved a true monopoly status, Sony, Universal, Warner Bros, Time Warner corporations have been convicted many times over for collusive behavior, They generally operate as a cartel as they practically control media distribution. It's why you don't see much of anything new in entertainment
-Cargill/ADM certainly qualify in their agriculture segments. They've both been successfully prosecuted for all kinds of market malfeasance, though neither one has a monopoly conviction.

The telco's and power companies operate as semi-private monopolies with prices regulated in all cases by local government agencies. They have this privilege for two reasons. First, they raised lots of money to build, manage and maintain the infrastructure on their own. Second, things like power and phones are seen as providing a public good, so in exchange for operating as a regulated monopoly, the power/phone companies generally provide these services to all. That includes easy and not easy to reach homes.

Yes, telcos have and continue to abuse their privileged position. But law enforcement is supposed to be keeping them in check. This is one of the reasons why Bush and Co are in trouble about the Office of the Attorney General.

Almost all utility companies are monopolistic. In Florida they have FPL.... you have no other choice as to who supplies your electric. In NY they have ConEdison.....

There are a few others, but the best example that everyone can relate to is Utilities.

Hope this helps
