I'm assuming this person acts embarassing in public? Well...If thats the case ....you can start off by explaining their wrong doing! Tell him/her that they will never be taken seriously if thats the way they are going to act while in public or in general period! It takes a real friend to point out your wrong doings but an even better friend to tell you!

When you speak to this person:
1) suggest specific things to do or change
2) be helpful, not criticizing
3) find ways to help the person grow, and praise the person for (real) growth.
You can act like a teacher or parent or leader.
and finally, maybe the person can't or won't change. Depending on the relationship, you might have to just accept it the way it is, or walk away from it. But if the person doesn't change and you can't accept it or leave it, get professional help.

He may be just pushing your buttons. If he truly is immature the world will let him know. He'll either adjust or cling to his immaturity and suffer the consequences. All you can do is make sure he doesn't take you along for the ride.

Not really, because how do you tell somebody to "me more mature"
If they don't get it, then sounds like you can't tell them to BE more mature.

weL, biblically speaking..you can't teach someone until you've shown love..so that when you teach a person he'll recognize it as someone that cares and wants to help because you already understand life and that kid is still ignorant of life's reality. and by using that way of teaching he wouldn't entertain negative thoughts that much and come to the conclusion that you just love him enough to discipline him, and naturally discipline does hurt but once he's used to it then he'll be immuned to it. And that's how to teach w/ love by of-course 1st showing love.

Simple answer: You can't.
It's like trying to teach Calculus to a horse. All you'll do is frustrate yourself and irritate the horse.
