Depends upon who the manufacturer is. In the case of Dell you need to know the name of the owner that Dell has on file and call them and they can tell you the password. In the case of other manufacturer's you might be out of luck. No easy way to remove CMOS passwords other than sending it to someone that know how and plan on spending a $100 or more plus shipping or calling the vendor and see if they will help you.

Try removing both the main and CMOS battery for 30 seconds or more. This may be easy to do on newer laptops but quite hard on old ones. Piece of cake on an ASUS A series but pain in the *** on a Compaq Presario 2500.

The CMOS battery may not be as easy as it sounds on a laptop. Some of them are soldered in place and not obviously a battery. There is no way any of us could tell you how to do this without you giving us the make and model of the laptop. If it is an off-brand laptop, we may not be able to help you at all. You may have to take it to a shop.

Mechanically, by removing all power to the CMOS thereby forcing it to reset itself to its stored defaults, which include no password
just by removing the cmos battery
