You may want to talk to your insurance company first so they know what is going on.
Plenty of water and a high pressure hose is best, as you need to get it off the car with out putting any downward force on the grit. NO RUBBING.
What I fear may have happened is that not only the paint but also the windshield is pitted and or scratched. If you have the right kind of insurance right now, they may pay for it
If you can retrace your steps, you may also find out who the contractor was that caused the damage and they may pay for the repair cost to fix the paint and or windshield (and other glass)

The first thing I would do is get a feather duster or a Swiffer duster and lightly go over your car. I know this sounds weird but, a feather duster or Swiffer duster uses static electricity to pick up dust. This static will pick up the sandblasting sand or glass. After you do that thoroughly then you will want to wash your car with water to get the sand that you missed. Don't rub anything don't even hand dry it. I would just dry it by driving it around and the air passing over it as you drive will dry it. Then I would wash it again with soap and water and you should be ok. But, definitely use a static duster to get the majority of it off before you do anything. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Try going to the high pressure coin-op car wash. Do not wipe with a rag or the brush. Just use the high pressure soap to wet the whole car, then wait a couple of minutes and spray off really well. Hopefully the sand just contained moisture that made it stick. You may have to repeat this a second time. Do not wipe with anything till you know it's all gone. Good luck

I would wash the car carefully with lots of sudsy warm water and car soap, rinsing the wash mitt often. Follow by claying the surface with a clay bar, folding in any remaining junk the bar picks up. You are right in thinking that any rubbing would scratch the surface.

rinse of the car, DO NOT SCRUB! spray as much of it off as possible. A 'no touch' type of car wash system is the best for your situation, use the one like the one showed on tv.
