A vaginal birth is always preferred. A c-section is only performed if your OB feels that it's medically necessary - if the baby's head is too big to fit through your pelvis, is breech (butt down instead of head down), or an emergency situation where you or your baby's life is at stake.

Being skinny has nothing to do with it.

I am 5ft4 and weighed 92 when I got pregnant... I plan to have a vaginal birth unless a c-section is necessary.

I am (or was, anyway) skinny, and small, and I pushed my baby out just fine. There are many factors that influence having either a natural or c-section birth. It's wisest to attempt a natural birth unless a doctor feels it would be unsafe for baby, mother, or both, to do so.

Going through labor really has nothing to do with your size. Barring a real medical reason birth will be better for you and the baby than major surgery, it activates the hormones needed for both of you and helps clear the liquid from the baby's lungs. You will have plenty of time to do more research when you're expecting.

Your weight has nothing to do with it....
Im a little overweight and struggled to push out a 7lbs11oz baby
My friend is as skinny as anything and pushed out a 10lbs8oz baby with no drugs!

You should only have to do it if the baby is breached, late term or very very big. My x was a very petite woman and she had ours normal, 7lbs 2 oz and after she gave birth it looked like she was never pregnant. The human body is a wonder it can do it and afterwords the docters stich it back up some so you are back to normal.

Skinny, fat, wide hips, small hips, it really doesn't matter.

Hormones loosen up your joints to get that baby out...one of the tiniest women I know (she used to be a thoroughbred racing jockey, and is fit as a pin, teeny little bone structure) has shot out four kids like it was nothing.

Being skinny does not make any difference on whether or not you can push a baby out. It's always better to have a vaginal birth if you are able.

My mom weighed 98 pounds when she graduated high school and had her first child at 19. She had 4 after that (all vaginal births), and she was fine.

Entirely up to your Ob/Gyn. Your doctor will know. Oh, and like the poster above says, skinny doesn't count.
