Mist down the walls and floors with a clorox solution. Clorox is a cheap means of sanitizing lots of things. Also there is a product called OdoBan, not as inexpensive, but removes skunk smell from my dogs!!

The only thing that will continuously help rid the basement of the musty odor is a dehumidifier.

They do cost between $100-$200, but shop around. Check at Home Depot, Sears and Lowes.

The only other solution would be to spinkle baking soda on the floor, let that set for an hour or so, then sweep or vacuum it up. But that won't be something that will rid you of the issue.

A de-humidifier will do the trick. See the air in basements get musty and smells because the air there is moist....and this breeds mold behind the walls which is what causes the smell.

first i would clean it out, scrub the floors and walls even if you use soap and water its better than nothing. Then i would spray febreeze everywhere...and get a couple of 99 cent air freshners.....thats what i would do:)
