last month my period came to me early (i believe 21 days instead of 28) it had already come at the beginning then it came again at the very end and it was over before the first of the next month and it was shorter and relatively light than usual. this month i assumed it would be 21 days when it would come again but it didn't show so i said ok 28 days which would have been either 25th or 26th sometimes its a day off it didn't show until 9-28 at like 530am and when i checked at like 9am it was like it was brownish the way it looks towards the end and it seemed like it had completely stopped. I took a preganancy test 24 and 25 because i was sure it was supposed to come on the week before (i'm anal about these things) it said neg but if it wasn't due til 25 and the test was supposed to detect as early as the first day i missed (which means i technically hadn't by then) could it have been wrong? my periods are pretty regular so i'm kind of worried. i was taking nuvaring but stopped july 07

i took a pregancy test but grabbed the wrong one and i don't know if it matters i wanted the early detection one that you can use before your period is supposed to show but i grabbed the one that is supposed to work after you've already missed one day. i took it anyway because by my period being of the previous month i couldn't tell if i'd already missed or not. i've been having what i think is pms symptoms off and on for like 2 1/2 weeks no real cramping but nausea tiredness breast tenderness. i also was taking nuvaring b/c but stopped taking it in july so i've been two months without. i've been pregnant before but had a miscarriage (in 04) and i don't recall having these symptoms but it was an early miscarriage (i was supposed to be 14 weeks i was only 8) so i don't know if i experienced any real pregnancy symptoms

YES, you can be pregnant and still have a period. PLENTY of women have a period while they are pregnant.
Menstruation usually stops when a woman is pregnant. However, in some cases, a woman might have a period with less blood or that lasts fewer days than usual and still be pregnant. Your confusion is understandable because these signs can lead women to believe they are not pregnant. However, various kinds of bleeding can occur in early pregnancy. Women can get some spotting in their first trimester:
* when the fertilized egg implants in the uterus;
* if the pregnancy is abnormal in any way [i.e., ectopic pregnancy (implantation outside of the uterus, such as in a fallopian tube), a threatening miscarriage]; or,
* from bleeding as part of their menstrual cycle (this is extremely rare).

Answer from Dr. Peter H. R. Roberts, medical director of obstetrics and gynecology at Providence Portland Medical Center: Not really. During the first three months of pregnancy, you may experience light vaginal bleeding. But – except in the rare circumstance of ectopic pregnancy – it's not a true period.
Let's refresh our understanding of menstruation. Every month, your uterus prepares a lush lining of cells to provide a home for an embryo. After ovulation, if your egg meets up with sperm, the fertilized egg bores into this cushiony lining.
If the egg is not fertilized, however, the body knows it has no use for that month's lining. The cells break down and are shed, in the form of your menstrual period.
You can't have that sort of period and be pregnant.
Spotting early in pregnancy can be confusing, however, especially if your menstrual flow is ordinarily light, and the bleeding coincides with the usual timing of your period. Here are some causes of normal spotting during the first trimester:
As the embryo is getting situated in the uterine lining, and the placenta begins to develop, the site where the embryo is attaching can bleed a little.
The blood supply to the cervix increases immediately when you become pregnant. The surface of the cervix is thin, and the pressure from the extra blood can make a few of the tiny blood vessels pop, causing slight bleeding.
The changes in the cervix can make it more sensitive to irritation from intercourse, and that can lead to a bit of bleeding.
Women who are pregnant generally feel an extreme tiredness that does not accompany menstruation. (Most pregnant women also develop breast tenderness, but that may not feel different from breast tenderness that accompanies your period.)
Pregnancy spotting is much lighter than what most women experience during their period, and it would last for fewer days than the typical period.
If you have abnormally light bleeding when you'd expect your period, and pregnancy is possible, go ahead and take a pregnancy test. Today's home pregnancy tests are very sensitive and accurate.
One caution: Bleeding in early pregnancy is a danger sign in the relatively rare case of ectopic pregnancy.
Ectopic pregnancies occur in about seven of 1,000 pregnancies in the United States. In an ectopic pregnancy, the fertilized egg starts developing outside of the uterus, usually in a fallopian tube. In that case, some of the uterine lining may slough off, as a period. You would experience other symptoms, such as lower abdominal pain and cramping on one side of the pelvis.
Again, if you have any question, I encourage you to take a pregnancy test. The earlier you begin prenatal care, the better. I'd also like to remind anyone trying to conceive to begin taking prenatal vitamins now. That way, your body and the baby have what they need from the very start of your pregnancy.

It's very rare but it is possible to get your period when you're pregnant.
If you're worried I suggest you do a test and/or speak to your doctor.
EDIT: Ok now you've mentioned that you took a pregnancy test but I didn't see you mention the result. Whilst false negatives are not unheard of it is extremely unlikely (to the point that I believe it can't actually happen) that you would get a false positive. Buy the proper test and try again. It's usually best to get a digital test if you can afford it. These will literally spell out if you are pregnant or not rather than going through all that complicated "line" business.
