I doubt the existence of life because the way i see it, we are all just a mix of chemicals which obey the laws of physics. we are like complex robots in a sense. we only do what the chemicals "tell" us. if you take out a piece of your brain, you will change dramatically *whether you like it or not*.
in 100 years, people will start to question life, as we advance in the production of robots. robots will be able to grow, by replacing their own parts, and make new robots (as if giving birth) from spare parts. as robots become more and more like humans, people will see that there is ever-fewer difference between humans and robots. I may be way ahead of my time. objects and humans both undergo chemical reactions. humans may not actually die, just change the way they react to the world. any thoughts?

emotions are also just chemicals that produce heart muscle contractions sometimes. robots can also have this ability given the right technology. just a matter of time.

Don't mean to step on your intellectual ennui, but the notion that we are just biological machines has been around awhile.

This is pretty much the core of Darwinism/Existentialism, which holds that Life does not have a MEANING, so much as a NATURE which is to collect energy, reproduce and protect itself.

It's a bit silly to say life doesn't exist, then describe it's existence. What you're really wrestling with is what it all means, and in that you're not alone. 400 years ago William Shakespeare said:

"Life is a tale told by an idiot -- full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

Now I'm not at all sure William is wrong, but I'll leave you with a joke I think puts things in perspective.

A man and woman are about to make love for the first time. But when the man drops his pants, the woman laughs. "Good Lord" she says "Who do you think your going to please with that little thing?" The man thinks for a moment and says "ME"

You might mean nothing to the universe. But you should be important to yourself.

what piece of your brain did you took out?

your initial question and "robots & human" thought are two totally different things. it dose not matter how well robots are built, they will always artificial and mechencial.

if life dose not exist then humans are REALLY great liers.

what is the "emptiness" you are refering to? do you not realize that there are people who are depressed and starving? why don't you go tell those people to go "lie to themselve to reduce the emptiness" because life really dose not exist. That they are really just "lying" to themselfs. All that pain is just a mix of chemials which you will get over sooner or later. They need to come up with a better lie and all the pain and suffering will go away.

yeah i don't think so.

Wow, doesn't that let you off the hook? Poor little you just a victim of programming. News flash. Humans can and do make choices. We have a marvellous mind that let's us THINK. react and adapt. We have emotions and passions. How utterly sad to reduce all that is the mind of man into "oh we are just chemicals"! we are more than the sum of the water an elements that we are made from.
