I was wondering. If the Cubs and Brewers are tied at the end of the season, would a one game playoff be necessary?

If the Cubs and Brewers finish in a tie atop the Central: A one-game playoff will be played Monday at Chicago's Wrigley Field.

Yes because the the loser would not qualify as the wild-card. For the same reason, there would NOT need to be a play-off between the Red Sox and Yankees if they tie, because the "loser" already has qualified for the wild-card.
