Take the job,,,nothing makes a person more social than working with the public....you will get over your shyness, you will love it, as a young woman, I was very shy,,,,,,,,in fact I still am, but no one knows I am shy,,because I have learned,,,,,if you talk, and it doesn't matter what you say......if you talk and smile people will be drawn to you, and think you are out going........when I say I am shy, my friends and family laugh, they don't believe me.....but I am........I just hide it, because I know....and you will learn this too......if you think it,,,,,and it is not something that would hurt anyones feeling......just say it......if someone has a pretty dress on......don't just think it....say it.......it will not look dumb.....it will cover up the fact you are shy.....and they will talk back to you.....and you will be in a conversation.......enjoy the diner, its a nice place to be....

Well, I think that becoming a waitress will help you overcome your shyness. First, they will train you to make sure you got things down...from there, you should become comfortable with customers and wouldn't have to worry about being too shy. You will overcome your shyness. I promise you that. Plus, being a waitress is not a tough job...just remember, the customer is ALMOST always right. It depends on the situation. Nowadays, restaurants have cameras inside, so they catch what's going on. So just, take a deep breath when you feel like you're starting to shake and freak out! You'll be great! Good luck!

Dont worry, anyone can be a waitress, just be polite, pay attention and think quick on your feet when things get busy. Being a waitress is hard because there are so many rude people in the world and they will take their frustrations out on you. You should apply for the job though, it doesnt matter if you are shy, it will give you confidence and it'll build character, good luck!

I have waitressed on the side for years and you need to be a sociable out-going person who can handle the stress of it all. It's not a job for the quiet and shy - you have to be able to communicate with your customers, your boss, the cooks, the busboys, dishwashers, etc...there's lots of action in waitressing. The money can be good, but you work your butt off for every last dollar!! Good luck!

I been one. I'm not quiet or shy. I did well but I'm sensitive..well I was younger then..I talk a bit more trash now but I got my feelings hurt , and then decided the older waitresses were too much of a pain in my rear when it came to changing shifts and my workmate wasn't doing his part so I quit..make sure you have a smile and thick skin.

I have been a server at a chain Italian restaurant. Don't worry too much about the shyness. They will train you. It is not exactly a hard job, nor is it easy. It requires a special set of skills. It is more important that you have the ability to organize, and stay calm and focused then to be social. Give it a shot...

You can do it. My first job was a waitress, I was 15, kind of shy, and very cute. I made pretty good money. You gotta get use to old guys and really old guys hitting on you.

Yes, and I had a lot of fun. You don't have to be really social. Most people dine with others, so they don't need to make conversation with the waitress/waitor. I think you should try it, you never know until you try. : )

I was for 3 years, it's tough at first, trying to talk to all your tables. But the money is really good, and you normally build up good friendships with the people you work with. I would give it a try if I was you.
