This is a rumor that has circulated. Leyland knows how to manage him. What would Tigers fans say? Yay or nay?

Don't know. Neither Sheffield nor Bonds responds very well if they're not the top dog on a team. They're both "high maintenance" players...and I'm not sure adding Bonds wouldn't just screw up the chemistry on an otherwise fine team. (And Shef's a more valuable player than Bonds right now.)
Woulda been a GREAT fit in Tiger stadium, with that short right field and overlapping bleachers...but the new park is not as hitter friendly.
I've always despised Bonds, so I'd hate to see him on a team I like...but that's just a personal thing, so caveat emptor.

No, no, no.

Sheffield was a waste of money, don't add another guy with off-field nonsense onto the team; especially someone near the end of their career like Bonds.

I'd rather see the Tig's trade Sheffield for someone that will be around for a while. Michal Young would be a great fit, as would Ichiro(although I doubt either will be traded).

I kind of feel that Sheffield had less to do with increased ticket sales than the fact that the Tigers were competetive last and this year. Which means that there was a 10+ string of mediocrity which makes games boring. Since the Tigers started winning people came out to the games.

A better question would be of any of these fans is "Would you want the Xteam to sign Bonds at $Y"

Bonds still has that massive ego and like Roger Clemens, will still go to places based on price. If he was really interested in a ring, he wouldn't have signed with San Francisco. And if he really believed they could have won this year, he wouldn't have signed at the amount he did.

If you really want a ring, why handcuff your team from getting those players around you by expecting top dollar.

These guys are rich-earning, rich-living, but cash poor. Bonds, in 94, had to go back to court to get his spousal support reduced because he wasn't earning income. It's his legal right to do so, but if you are making $7 mil a year and you couldn't affort to 'float' $15k a month, something is wrong.

So, Tiger's fans. It's not whether you want the Tigers to sign Bonds, but do you want them to sign Bonds at $2 mil a year, how about $5 mil. 10?? 15?? 18?? At what price (and at what loss of other players/chemistry) is he worth it.

I know I wouldn't want him on my home team

It would be good for Bonds to pad his numbers and possibly reach 3,000 hits, but it would not be good for the Tigers. There would be a certain group of home town fans that would not accept him and the last thing Tigers management would want is home town fans screaming at Bonds during Tigers home games and throwing syringes on the field.

barry bonds is a big name in baseball, only because he can hit home runs, but that's not what the great game of baseball is about. he is gonna play one more season and chances are he mite go to detroit. but i say he shud juss retire because, lets be real, he is old.

NO!-we don't need another overpaid "has been" to coddle and tout--Sheff was a disappointment-why pay another crybaby prima donna that kind of money! Get A-Rod if want to spend that much money(if Illitch wants to spend that much.)
