Peter Gabriel once confided to me that he had wanted to write it as "in your ice" all along.

The answer, of course, was "perfectly preserved 10,000-year-old woolly mammoth carcass", but:

(a) It didn't rhyme with "the light, the heat", in the next line,

and

(b) did the world really need yet another song about perfectly preserved 10,000-year-old woolly mammoth carcasses?

So it became a love song instead.

You can't argue with the boy's logic, though.

Hope it wasn't pink eye. That sucked. Actually that song marked his period of falling in love with Rosanna Arquette. Then things got darker on the Us album for the breakup.

Perhaps it was the Red Rain after he hit me with a Sledgehammer. I also heard him saying that he made the Big Time after he went to Shock The Monkey.

I think it was pink eye, which is extremely contagious.
