all countries do so to an extent.
It's a necessary part of living in a 'society'
any group of people will impose their own rules... whether it is within a tribe, a village or a country - even within the family group, there are rules.
the only time you will ever get away from people telling you how to live your life, is to find a deserted island and go and live there on your own

Every Country!, especially if your actions cause injury, loss and distress to others.
Basically it is called Law Making.
Likewise, a lawless 'don't care' Country allows guns so that the inhabitants can shoot each other.
And; a weak country similarly allows guns for the similar reason.

At worst it is a dictatorship at best it is through a democratic process. We need some restrictions on our freedom otherwise it will be impossible to live safely with our neighbours or one another.
