what a very lucky selfish old git.
he got a year, so that's 6 months, minus his time on remand + early release, he'll be out in 2 months, tops.
the punishment really doesn't fit the crime!
me,
i'd endanger his life & see how he likes it!

I can remember when it was permitted to smoke during a flight at 30k feet. So I regard the reaction as being a little bit over the top. However this clown knew it was a no smoking flight and he also knew that many people now object to tobacco smoke around them. He knew that a fire alarm would go off if he lit up in the loo. he assaulted a steward so on that ground alone he got what he deserved

Well that's another ******** of the streets for a few months.
He won't do 12 months unfortunatly. He'll do 6 maybe less for good behaviour and then let out on Licence.
And guess what.....Prison is one of the very few places exempt from the Smoking Ban so he can carry on puffing away !!! Ironic ain't it

I agree with you,I'm an addicted smoker 40 a day plus something I'm not proud of ..I flew 14500 miles to New Zealand and managed not to smoke if I can do it so could he .its ridiculous he can't manage a short flight, endangering that many lives he should have been fined and jailed.

No, he did act like a complete muppet and deserves punishment, but not more than 12 months jail. He should have been made to pay back the money of the diversion and compensation to the crew, etc. That will hit him a lot harder than a jail sentence.

Twelve months may seem a lot as many of your answerer's have pointed out,but as nutsters said with his time on remand deducted and early release plus they generally cut this type of sentence in half he will be out in 2 months or there abouts .Thinking how many lives were at stake ................................NO I don't think it was long enough should have been far more.

Stupid pillock. People like him give smokers a bad name. I think 12 months is long enough IF he serves his whole sentence and doesn't get let out in 3 months or something as daft as that, it's certainly going to make him think, isn't it? Bloody idiot.

No I dont think it should have been any longer than 12 months
Yes it was an idiotic ridiculous thing to do but why waste the jail space on some moron who wanted a cigarette?

i think 12 months is fair actually, some judges would have let him off with a slap on the wrist, i do think he should be made to pay compenstation to the poor chap whose teeth he bosted,

He should have been made to pay compensation to the steward for the cost of his dental work, as well.
