I stopped using direct deposit and use my debt card only in emergencies or to pay my bills directly to the company I'm paying and on the due date. But all we have to do is just stop and walk to work, can you image turning on your TV and on CNN/Fox seeing 300,000 people in every major city walking the interstate to work and all the state troopers trying to stop us, take all our money out of the bank and use cash only.
They would shitt a bundle of bricks and to show our defiance some of us may have to starve but we would regain our freedom & liberty!

Didn't we already say we were going to do that at the gas pumps???

Coprorations only have as much power as the general public gives them. What you are suggesting is failsafe in that if people quit using ATMs, it would severely hurt the business that they are running and therefore will be more than willing to abolish whatever policy change was made that enticed people to quit using the service.

HOWEVER, doing this will be almost impossible in that these institutions are providing a service that the general public absolutely cannot live without. The dawn of internet banking has made it so that many people bank at institutions that don't even have offices in their towns. They can't just then cash a personal check (anywhere that does charges service fees as well). The only way to get cash is through the ATM.
Personally, I have a bank card. I ran out of paper checks a year ago and have not reordered any because the card is more convenient and I have never found myself in a situation where I HAD to have a paper check. So When I need cash, I just go to the ATM.

Please consider that every time we use a credit card to pay for stuff, the banks are charging the shop owners a fee. This country's money supply is in the hands of private bankers instead of Congress and the Treasury. The Fed chairman is chosen from THEIR list.
A little US history might be in order here. The founders main contention with King George III was Britain's insistance that the colonies use only money issued (at interest, to Britian's national bank, The Bank of England) by the Crown, instead of the non-profit model of colonial building and loans. The other usurpations were important, but this edict was the last straw.
In a state-capitalist economy such as ours, our votes are ignored, our wishes discounted, UNLESS we have money to back it up. In other words, our power is how we do or do not spend what is left over after the Central Bank and Pentagon take their lion's share. Don't like what you see on Fox? Call their advertisers and tell them you will not buy their products. Don't like what you hear from Limbaugh? Call the companies of the products he shills for and tell them the same. We are not powerless. Without us, this country stops.

There is a book out there by Edward F. Mrkvicka Jr. called YOUR BANK IS RIPPING YOU OFF and what to do about it.

I'll tell you something all of us need to take a long hard look at the central banking system and how they gained control over our country beginning with The Federal Reserve Act on December 23, 1913, . It is some pretty shady sh*t and Thomas Jefferson warned us way back when that the central bankers posed the biggest threat to our freedom.

All of you who read this should type in Federal Reserve origins. What we don't know can hurt us. Knowledge is power and "knowing is half the battle".

Banks do take advantage of us. They give us little or not interest and charge exorbitant interest rates for their credit cards and loans. They also nickel and dime us with many charges for what used to be free. Compare the costs of ordering checks from a bank and on line and such companies as Costco.

One week will not solve anything. We have to find good banks and stop using the others.

Since we deregulated the banks under the Republicans edict, the customers always get shafted. (Of course those rich fat cats that have high balances are not charge=d any fees at all), but I cannot understand why people fall for the drum beat that deregulation causes competition and prices to fall, when in reality it has been proven in every case that the prices and fees go up ! Just look at the airlines, cable TV and electricity charges since deregulation for example. Why are people so stupid to fall for voting Republican?

I always use my bank's ATM's. On some occasion I use others and pay for that convenience. I'm not especially mad.

unfortunately i belong to a small credit union, which means they only have a handful of atm's. ((approximately 20))

so i learned a little trick -- when i find myself in a dire need of some quick cash, i go to the nearest store to make a small purchase. ((newspaper, pack of gum, bottle of water, etc..)) then i select cash back..

chan-ching no ATM fee for me baby :D

*fortunately my bank doesn't charge a fee for that*
