I had a c section almost 4 years ago and for the last few days the scar has been very painful and sore.
I took a look at it this morning and its VERY red irriated and very hot to the touch. My friend seems to think its an infection but how can i get an infection in something that healed almost 4 years ago??

i have phoned my drs surgery and im waiting on someone contacting me back to see if i have to go see the dr or maybe get some antibiotics but in the mean time i was wondering had anyone experienced this or know what could be wrong.
ive done nothing out of the ordinary recently so im kinda baffled as to why i would be in so much pain.

thanks in advance for those of you who answered

I agree that if he shrugs it off again then you should see another doc. And if you can't get into another one in a reasonable amount of time and the infection does not get better than you should go to an emergency room. An infection left untreated, especially one that was open to your uterus, can be very serious. And if you don't have a dr at a practice to see you then I think it's perfectly reasonable to go to an er. If you develop a fever or red lines start to emerge from it then seek medical attention asap.

Weight loss or gain can cause the scar to hurt.My scar is 11 years old and in cold weather it pulls and hurts.Try applying a moisturiser to the scar, or Bio Oil.If you continue to worry see your doctor.

4 years is a long time. would be all healed and no infections possible. I had a l inch part that took almost a year to heal completely. Dr said some old stitches were working their way out and sure enough they did.

I had the same, 3 years later I had an infection. You know what it was, it was an in-grown hair that got infected, and I had to get it pulled out...( Sorta) They sliced a small area to take the root out and sewed me back with 3 stitches. I used Vitamin E cream, and never had a problem since. Good luck!

Reddness and heat usually does mean infection. Just because the skin healed 4 years ago does not mean the muscle layers and other tissues heal as fast. You could have developed an interal infection in one of the subcutaneous layers which is showing itself through the surface of the skin. I would definitley make an appointment (fast as possible) with your ob-gyn to have it looked at.

I'm curious...not to compare, but I had a hernia surgery a few years ago, and occasionally the scar gets red and itchy...mine would go away after a few days...

when you have the c section the docs cut a lot of nerves

sometimes when your starting to get the feeling back in the bottom of your tummy this can be sore

kinda like having a trapped nerve, its like gettting the sensation back in the nerves

im 20 weeks with triplets and im gonna be having a c section and my midwife said this could happen,
