You could purchase a SD card and backup the data you need.

You should go to a computer store and ask for assitance with ur laptop, generally what they say is:
For windows xp

If you have a LAN port (an opening that is similar to what u plug the USB into) in the laptop and the computer then they will sell u a LAN cable, i would buy a crossover LAN cable to connect those ports to each other. Turn them on and go to start->control panel->Network Connections. You should see an application there which may be called "Local Area Connection," right click on that and click on properties at the bottom of the list. You'll see something saying "this connection uses the following items," double click on the one that says "internet protocol (TCP/IP)," then for both options click on the "Obtain ... automatically." Then click OK and OK again and then ur IP should be set.
Do that on the laptop and the computer/PC.
Move to the PC(the information u want to copy to ur laptop)
There should be an option in ur start menu saying "My Network Places," click on that and search for the folder that u want everything that u want to backup to. Right click on what u want copied and paste it to the folder u want it copied to.

Otherwise u can invest in an external HDD and back everything up on that instead of a laptop.
Either way the best advice i can give is visit ur nearest computer store and ask there.

There are many ways to do this.

If you have a network you can back up to another pc on the network or on a network storage device.

If you do not have a network, you can subscribe to a data storage company and use the internet to back up periodically. You can do a search for data storage companies to see what is available and what you like.

If it is a small number of files, you can back up using a USB flash drive or you can copy to a cd if you have a cd writer. Careful with CD rewrite discs as they tend to fail after a few rewrites.
