My very spoiled, rude, fake and ugly cousin is ripping off you and me, and it's not fair!

She claims to have hurt her back, she says she was lifting a milk carton at work and injured her back. But really she lent against a wall and pulled a muscle.

So now, she can't work and ACC is paying 80% of what she was earning!! She likes to tell everyone that she's "taking a holiday on ACC!".

I find this so disgusting. I injured my back when I was 11 in a car crash. I wasn't working then, so I can't possibly go on paid leave. I come home from work physically tired, my back aches and I'm in tears because it's so painful. I just want to try and be normal and have a part time job like my friends.

I just don't think it's fair, I'm doing hard work that's hurting me, and my taxes are going to some spoiled brat who simply can't be bothered working!

Is there anywhere I can report this?

I don't care that she is my family, it's not right or fair!

No, she's ripping off you and me and every other tax payer in New Zealand.

Her Dad is a doctor. They know people who will lie for her.

Tell the ACC. Why is it that people think it's ok to 'rip off' aka steal as long as they don't get caught?

I was a partner in a business many years go. The company paid ACC levies (taxes) and if anyone was hurt on the premises (staff or public) the ACC levy would increase. That's not a problem if there's a real injury, but to pay extra for something that has never happened, because of another persons dishonesty is beyond the pail.

That grates hell outta me, 'cause I've been a tax payer since I was 15 and when I wanted to give up work for a little while to be a stay at home mum, I got NOTHING from the tax man.

There is an 0800 number in the blue pages that you can call anon, and report this, they will then do an investigation and haul her *** in court if it's warranted.

I admire that you want to do the right thing, I wish other people would do it 'cause I see so many rip offs come through my job and with ALL the free money they've had, they have absolutely nothing to show for it 'cause they're too busy spending their free money on booze and drugs.

Go for it girl!

Hi Wabby,
Your cousin's actions put you in an invidious situation.
You have a certain regard for your cousin, but also as a taxpayer you feel you should not have to pay for her "holiday". (And I don't like having to pay either.)
I would suggest you follow the advice of Tash K and ring the 0800 phone number of the ACC. You'll find it in the blue lined pages at the front of the phone book.
I hope your actions don't make you feel too guilty in future dealings with your cousin, but she herself is the wrongdoer, not you.

Hi Wabby,
I know it's annoying, I had a colleague who did the same. The thing is, we can't worry about it, because we can't change the situation (except if we tell ACC, but that would possibly get us in heaps of trouble, so don't do that). If she eventually gets found out they will issue fraud charges against her. Don't worry, nothing you can change, just let it be and get on with your own life.
Have a nice weekend.

Report it (fraud@acc.co.nz). ACC is not a bottomless pit of money and there are poeple who need treatment that may be losing out because of others ripping the system off.

I agree with H-man Wabby, it is not the family doctor she has to go to but one that ACC nominate.

What goes around often comes backs and bites you in the a$$

you are so right, go for it, ca,, the local agency who she is ripping off, you do not have to say who you are, at the very least they will check into it! and hopefully do something about it!
here in the states ppl do it ALL the time, i have no idea how they can do it, get away with it, and pl, don't do a thing about it, but they sure complaine enough! good luck! hope they nail her.

Don't worry Wabby she will have to have to have medical checks every 3 months and if she is faking she can be taken to the cleaners for benefit fraud.
