I have some thin metal sheets (CR), .004 and .010 thick. I need to cut a half moon type shape on one edge of the metal sheet with about a 3" dia. Is there something available, or is it possible, to maybe use a punch press, or something similar, to cut this half moon shape out without leaving a rough edge? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Both 2 and 3 offer valid clues; and in any case; even with a PUNCH you should "Finish" the cut edge anyway. The shears might give you a smoother cut than a metal blade; but shears also tend to CURL thin stock in the cutting process; although that can be attended to as well as the edges.

It depends on what tools you have available. Yes, a punch press could accomplish this, if you have access to one.

I would just draw the pattern out and use a jigsaw with a metal-cutting blade. Any rough edges can be smoothed out very easily with a hand grinder.

You could also use tin shears. Very cheap and easy to use.

There are metal snips called "aircraft tin snips" I think. For your hobby they would be great because they come in right , left and straight cutting curves. Very handy for many purposes. They are available at building supply stores.
