In the usenet newsgroups its become a sign of status. Ive had some in the alt.hackers group because its white-hat only (security netcops) and kiddies keep coming in to ask black-hat hacker questions.

We joke about things like be sure to feed it regularly, how trainable we think it is, how smart (is each post different and creative or just cursing and ranting), can you teach it tricks like making it bark to a certain phrase. We also joked around about luring each others trolls away.

Im old so this might go over the head of some here. But one of my favorite responses to getting a new troll was...
Just what I always wanted. My own little bunny rabbit! I will hug him, and pet him, and squeeze him, and name him George. (from an old Bugs Bunny cartoon)

They are the latest status symbol!

I have a little group who follow me around sometimes, but they seem to get bored quite quickly. I don't want to name them as I don't want to frighten them off.

You must feed them often but just occasionally you must kick them to show them whose boss.
