Someone made a fake humiliating profile using my picture and giving out my email address on a dating site. I do not know who did this, nor can I delete it because I do not know the password to the fake account. What can I do? Is this illegal? Thank you!

Contact the web site, tell them the situation. If they ignore you, ramp it up and very kindly tell them if they don't contact you, then you will be forced to take legal action.

There is a few web sites that give the address or legal holder of the web site domain, plus the company that is the internet host. I forgot what those sites are, but a simple search on the net will find those sites for you. I believe yahoo has such a service. Its free.

What the person did is of course illegal and would probably fall under the identity theft laws.

Good luck and I know right now, it sucks to be you, but at the same time, a few months down the road you'll be laughing about it.

Peace

Jim

You should definetly report the page.

Try to convince people that you didn't make it, and get your friends to tell people that too, and report it with you. Contact the owner of the site and suggest that they delete the account, and explain what happened. Also, you should change your email to prevent any creepy guys from contacting you.

This happened to me before, in a way. One of my 'friends' was posting comments about me that were not true. I just told my friends that they were lies, and my friends helped me post a bunch of comments saying that the othere ones wern't true.

Make sure you trust your friends with your problem. They love you, and I bet they will support you in this.

Good luck!

That is really mean. But the damage has been done and a lot of people already have your email address so the first thing i would do is change that. then maybe you can contact whoever runs the dating site?

If you don't have the pass word it's not good, But what you can do is report it to yahoo and have all your friends report it to yahoo too. Is this a yahoo 360 page? It happened to a friend of mine once and we got it deleted after many of us reporting it.

Some teenagers who did that to a teacher got sued and the teacher won. The parents were responsible for their actions. Neat huh??
