Usually, Sleeplessness is caused due to various reasons such as stress, bad food habit, etc.,. Too much of sleep during the day time can make you go insomniac at night. Consumption of sleeping pills might put you to sleep for a while, but in the long run it will eventually spoil your health. Several studies have been conducted to find a natural remedy for insomnia, one of that is using nutmeg. Powdered nutmeg in milk or hot water can relax the nerves and induces peaceful sleep in a natural way.

People who suffer from sleepless night should make lettuce a regular part of their evening meal. A calcium deficiency in the body causes restlessness and wakefulness. Magnesium deficiency is responsible for nervousness that prevents sleep. Vitamin B complex or B6 deficiency can causes insomnia. Also helpful to take Niacin and Melatonin before bedtime. Exercise in fresh air during the day but not in the late evening. Drive the blood away from the head will help. Apply a cold-water pack to the back of the head and neck just before going to bed. Warm feet are important.
Keep the regular routine of going to bed at the same time every night. One hour of sleep before midnight has the equivalent value of two hour's sleep after midnight. Keep bedroom dark. Sleep in a natural-fiber linens and nightwear.
Take time to unwind. Do not go to bed angry. A cup of skullcap tea will be helpful as well.

I have RAGING insomonia that only added to my manic episodes so I DO take a sleeping pill. It's pretty awesome though, metabolizes in four hours and I never feel "hung over". But before I was willing to take a pill, my mom made a lavender spray and I sprayed my sheets with it. It's supposed to help sleep. I always keep the house at 68 or lower Take the hottest shower you can stand before bed And warm milk. If that doesn't work, look into Sonata. It's not too bad really.

Insomnia is often caused by fear, stress, anxiety, medications, herbs, caffeine, depression or sometimes for no apparent reason. Make sure your bedroom is quiet and dark. Soak a tablespoon of mint leaves in a cup of water for an hour, drink every night. Check out http://useinfo-insomnia.blogspot.com/ for more info

Exercise...lots of cardio. Take walks, find a place to hike or ride a bike. Join a gym and spend some time on the treadmill or exercise bike. So much of our lives is spent working our brains and letting our physical selves go. I believe this is one of the reasons why so many folks in our culture have such a hard time falling asleep at night.

I've tried pretty much all of the advice given here (except the smoke) but what has helped me the most is exercise, any time of the day is helpful, and doing accupuncture. I've tried melatonin and other herbal mixtures that are supposed to promote sleep, but that has not been much help.

Melatonin 1mg to start then if needed work your way up to 3mg if needed. works great its all natural something your body already produces anyway. my sons and my husband have all used this successfully in the past when needed. take it 2 hours or 1 and a half before bed time. good luck, best wishes.
