I'm not sure what you're looking for. Many universities have drama as a major (theatre history is usually a required course). If you're looking to learn about theatre from an academic, not practical, standpoint, look into their humanities courses.
I take it you're British--I studied drama in the US, but I did a year at the University of East Anglia in Norwich. They have a strong humanities program (at the time, it was in the English & American Studies dept.), and I took many classes on theatre history and drama criticism.

If in the UK, I have given a link to the accredited theatre courses (Drama Schools). A lot of universities will have courses on English and also have 'drama clubs' (Eg: Cambridge Footlights being one of the more famous university drama clubs).

look around at actors you like the style of, on the internet, some sits provide bios that tell you the uni they studied at. They dont go to magic places that noones heard of, some that are local and "easy" to get in to.
search around

Is there? In the US, there are very few to consider. What are the issues you mention? You dont want a university, you want a drama club? I guess you want Great Britian as your previous answerers indicate.
