In the classical sense, a sea it is a branch of an ocean. The same may be said of gulfs, bays, bights and other oceanic inlets. Inland bodies of waters are not seas in this sense, rather they are saline lakes. This includes the Dead Sea, the Aral Sea, the Salton Sea, the Caspian Sea and others that I cannot recall from memory. The Great Salt Lake in Utah is correctly named.

The Salton Sea is in Souther Calif and is similar to the dead sea in climate size and elevation.
